Hello, my name is Imani Coaxum. I am a journalism and broadcasting major at SUNY Brockport, and I want to create my own blog and eventually a magazine to write about beauty, fashion, and lifestyle.
Beyond the Palette is a niche blog about the diversity of makeup. In today's society, we read magazines and if you notice you do not see a lot of diversity in them. We see women, specifically caucasian, modeling in campaigns or celebrities. Yeah they are cool to look at, but it makes it hard for us as viewers to relate. With this blog I want to promote diversity as in different skin tones and genders. Makeup has been socialized to be JUST for women and I absolutely disagree. There are many male makeup artists who are very successful at what they do. I want viewers to be able to relate with what they see in my blog.
There will be tips on saving money because there are many great dupes for makeup products. As well as skin care tips because I have countless tips from many different sources. There will also be tutorials and chit chat videos so that you guys can get a sense of who I am and what I like, and inspiration and trend posts to see what's new in the makeup world. My viewers will also play a big role in the content I provide. So your questions, comments, and concerns matter most.
I believe that there are no set rules on how to do makeup and who should wear it and everyone should see it this way because makeup is art. So I hope to inspire viewers to take more risks with makeup. I want to be able to provide viewers with my perspective on makeup as well as other perspectives.Wear crazy lipstick and eyeshadow colors, get creative!
